Mehbooba Mufti to walk free after 14 months of detention

Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir’s former chief minister and leader of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will be walking free after 14 months of detention as her PSA has been revoked by the J&K administration on Tuesday.

Ms Mehbooba was detained hours before the Central government nullified Article 370 and re-organised J&K into two Union Territories on August 5, 2019.

“Her PSA has been revoked,” J&K government spokesman Rohit Kansal told KNO.

Minutes after Ms Mufti’s release was confirmed her daughter, Iltija Mufti tweeted: “As Ms Mufti’s illegal detention finally comes to an end, Id like to thank everybody who supported me in these tough times. I owe a debt of gratitude to you all. This is Iltija signing off. May allah protect you”.

In August last year, before the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35-A more than 40 mainstream leaders, including former Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and top leaders like Sajad Gani Lone and Shah Faesal were detained by the government.
