SC refuses plea to stop Amarnath Yatra; says ‘matter must be left to local administration’

New Delhi: Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea to stop Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir amid the ongoing Covid19 pandemic, maintaining that the ‘matter must be left to local administration’.

“The matter must be left to the competence of the local administration, keeping in view the statutory provisions”, the Supreme Court bench hearing the bench ordered.

The bench also cited its earlier order of banning the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, saying it had to amend its order based on the proposals of the Puri administration.
