Saturday snowfall: Here is how much snow fell across Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 23: The brief snow spell across Kashmir and parts of Chenab and Pirpanjal valleys on Saturday and late Friday brought back the difficulties of road blockades, power cuts, road accidents and lack of accessibility for isolated areas.

On Saturday all flights were cancelled to and from Srinagar airport. While Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed for vehicular traffic on Saturday itself, officials said that it shall remain closed for traffic on Sunday as well. The Mughal Road – which connects Kashmir valley with Jammu region through the Pirpanjal valley – continues to remain closed due to heavy snow accumulation across Pir ki Gali.

Fresh communiqué by Traffic Police for 24-01-2020 read, “No vehicular movement shall be allowed on Jammu-Srinagar NHW from either side in view of shooting stones/mudslides at several places on NHW, snow accumulation around the Jawahar Tunnel and inclement weather prediction issued by MET Department.”

According to the interim reports received by Ziraat Times, the following snow accumulations have happened in various areas of Jammu & Kashmir. An updated report shall be produced once more information is received.

Srinagar city:

Srinagar city received six to eight inches of snowfall, while as the surrounding mountains of Srinagar district like Zabarwan mountains, Mahadev peak, received one foot to 2 feet of fresh snowfall.

Budgam district:

Chrar Sharif, Yusmarg, upper Nagam received between 2 feet to one foot of snowfall. Khan sahib and surrounding areas received about one foot of snowfall while lower areas of Budgam received 6 to 8 inches.

District Kupwara:

Sadna top 44 inches, Karnah 12″, Keran 24″, Z-Gali 23″, Machil 15″, Kupwara 8 to 12″, Trehgam 12″
Kralpora 12″, Sogam & Lalpora 8″

District Baramulla:
Gulmarg 22″, Tangmarg 14″, Baramulla town 8″,

District Kulgam

Aharbal 18″, D.H. Pora 8″, Kulgam 8″, Malwan 8″
