Dr Samoon unveils JKSDM Online Special Skills Program report

Srinagar: Principal Secretary to the Government, School Education and Skill Development Department, J&K Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon unveiled report of J&K Skill Development Mission’s Covid-19 Online Special Program held during the months of May & June, 2020.

Director, Skill Development Department, J&K, Executive Director, Entrepreneurship Development Institute, J&K, Director, Industries and Commerce Department, Kashmir, Director, Handicrafts, J&K, Mission Director, J&K Skill Development Mission and other senior officers of Skill Development Department attended the unveiling ceremony held at Civil Secretariat, Srinagar. 

J&K Skill Development Mission(JKSDM) initiated its online “CoVid-19 Lets sKILL IT ” program on 18th May, 2020 with the aim to engage with youth, inculcate in them a positive outlook and provide them opportunities to learn new skills or upgrade their existing skill sets.

As distance learning became the need of the hour, utilisation of online learning platforms was the best available option for the Mission to connect with youth. Using reliable online learning medium, J&K Skill Development Mission (JKSDM) started this free of cost online skill crash courses of maximum 10 days duration.

Various online programs sessions were held with the aim to make productive use of the time available with people during the lockdown. Apart from roping in professionals from various skill institutions across J&K, the Mission also invited reputed national and international industry experts for this online program.

From homemakers to unemployed youth to students pursuing professional courses in J&K, all opted for this add-on skill course. Out of 2316 registrations, 1021 candidates were shortlisted for the program wherein students were provided online lectures, videos, PowerPoint presentations and interactive lectures on topics related to skill and entrepreneurship development. Besides, daily classes by instructors, the candidates also got an opportunity to interact with reputed industry experts.

 The batch/phase wise training created awareness among youth about new trends as well as opportunities available in market and the skills required to compete for such opportunities. 

“The motive of the program was to provide the best training and exposure to the youth at their doorsteps and in achieving this goal, JKSDM affiliated training centres played a pivotal role in ensuring quality delivery of training,” said an official of JKSDM.
