Srinagar: Kashmir Welfare Trust (KWT) has reached out to as many as 1016 families across Kashmir during the corona lockdown with basic food and non food items.
The trust has been reaching out to most needy families at their doorsteps with food and non food kits.
“It is a collective duty of government, NGOs, well-to-do indiciduals, mohalla committees to ensure that no one goes hungry in these circumstances. Our volunteers have been travelling far and wide to reaching out to needy families despite the lockdown. We are grateful to people who are identifying these families so that some basic help is teaching them”, Haji Manzoor Wangnoo, patron of the trust said.
A lot of people are in distress, both local and non-locals who are stuck here. Our aim is to reach all, and we are trying our best, Mr Wangnoo said.
We are also trying not to expose the beneficiary families to publicity and are maintaining distancing protocols, he further said.
According to the trust, each kit costs Rs 1640 and it has made a fervant appeal to people to come forward and contribute financially and help one or more needy families.
On April 10 and 11, distribution was done in Dalgate (35 Packages), Nawakadal (1 package), Ilahi bagh (1 package), Habba kadal (1 package), Nawabazar (2 packages), Shutra Shahi (1 package), Baghwanpora (5 packages), Islamic College Hawal (1 package), Shalimaar (2 package), Brain Nishat (1 package) and Tengpora (1 package).
The packages comprise both food and non food items.
The trust is also reaching out to needy families across North Kashmir and South Kashmir.
The trust has requested the administration to provide them protective gear for their volunteers so that they are able to reach out to more needy families.
