Kashmiri youth alleges assault in Delhi over pro-Modi slogans; meets Jitendra Singh

Srinagar, October 11: Faheem Nazir, a youth from Srinagar who alleges he was assaulted in Delhi after raising slogans in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, met Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh, according to a statement issued by the BJP Minority Morcha.

The statement said Singh listened to Nazir’s account of the incident, appreciated his courage and felicitated him during the meeting. The delegation was led by BJP Minority Morcha national president Kunwar Basit Ali.

According to the Morcha, Nazir was allegedly beaten by people it linked to the Congress after he expressed support for Modi and raised questions about the Congress leadership in the presence of Rahul Gandhi. The statement did not provide details of the alleged assault or indicate whether a police complaint had been filed.

The Morcha called for a fair and impartial investigation, saying citizens had the democratic right to express political opinions and support leaders of their choice without fear or intimidation.

It also said political disagreements should be addressed through dialogue and democratic debate rather than violence, and stressed that Muslims should be able to make independent political choices without being treated merely as a vote bank.

During the interaction, Nazir reiterated his commitment to India’s unity, sovereignty and constitutional values, according to the statement. He also expressed concern about political instability in neighbouring South Asian countries and emphasised the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions.

Kunwar Basit Ali said Nazir’s concerns and dignity deserved respect. The Morcha reiterated its support for the protection of citizens’ democratic rights and freedom of expression.

Er. Aijaz Hussain, BJP J&K State Executive Member and co-in-charge of the Minority Morcha in Jammu and Kashmir, accompanied the delegation and expressed solidarity with Nazir, the statement added.
