Srinagar, Aug 31: A noticeable change in the colour of water in parts of Dal Lake, coupled with reports of fish deaths, has raised concerns among local residents and environmental observers.
Residents have urged the authorities to urgently investigate the possible causes behind the change in water colour and reported fish deaths, amid concerns over the health of the lake’s fragile ecosystem.
They have also called for regular monitoring of water quality across different parts of the lake and timely intervention to prevent any further deterioration of the iconic water body.
The residents said any signs of ecological stress in Dal Lake warranted prompt scientific assessment, particularly given its environmental and economic importance to Srinagar.
They urged the concerned departments to ascertain whether the reported changes were linked to pollution, reduced water quality, algal activity, sewage inflow or other factors, and take appropriate remedial measures.
