Srinagar: J&K Bank has issued a public advisory warning pensioners against a fraudulent online scam involving fake “J&K Pension Card” advertisements circulating on social media platforms, cautioning that cybercriminals are attempting to steal banking credentials and gain unauthorized access to customers’ accounts.
The bank said deceptive messages are being widely shared on platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Telegram, falsely promising special pension cards, updates or additional benefits for pensioners.
According to the advisory, fraudsters lure victims into clicking malicious links that prompt them to download harmful APK files or mobile applications. Once installed, these applications seek access to SMS messages, call logs and phone accessibility settings, enabling scammers to intercept one-time passwords (OTPs) and other confidential banking information.
J&K Bank advised customers not to click on links received through such advertisements or messages and cautioned against downloading or installing APK files or mobile applications shared through unknown links or social media platforms.
The bank also reminded customers never to share debit card details, CVV numbers, PINs, OTPs or internet and mobile banking credentials with anyone. It said any request to install an application or disclose confidential banking information in exchange for pension-related benefits should be treated as fraudulent.
In case of suspected fraud, the bank urged customers to immediately block their digital banking channels through the mPay Delight Plus app, the bank’s official website or by contacting the J&K Bank Contact Centre at 1800 890 2122.
Customers have also been advised to report cyber frauds to the National Cyber Crime Helpline by dialling 1930 or through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The bank further recommended uninstalling suspicious applications or resetting affected mobile devices to factory settings if compromise is suspected.
Describing pensioners as among its most valued customers, J&K Bank said customer security remains its top priority and appealed to the public to remain vigilant and share the advisory with fellow pensioners and family members to prevent cyber fraud.
