Srinagar, July 4: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the management and overall ground situation of the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, urging pilgrims to undertake the pilgrimage only after obtaining a valid registration to ensure safe and smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, senior officers of the Civil Administration, Police, Security Forces, the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, Intelligence Bureau and other concerned departments.
During the review, the Lieutenant Governor assessed pilgrim movement, traffic management, security arrangements, accommodation, registration status and other logistical aspects related to the Yatra.
Officials informed the meeting that an unusually large number of pilgrims have been arriving in Jammu & Kashmir without valid registration, resulting in longer waiting times and operational challenges.
Sinha emphasised that the Yatra is being conducted in accordance with the prescribed ceiling on pilgrim movement along the Yatra routes, as mandated by the Supreme Court, and said strict adherence to the registration schedule is essential to ensure the safety, security and convenience of all devotees.
He reiterated that only pilgrims holding valid registration for their designated date would be allowed to proceed on the tracks leading to the Holy Cave Shrine.
The Lieutenant Governor appealed to intending pilgrims who have not yet registered to postpone their travel for a few days to avoid inconvenience after reaching Jammu & Kashmir.
The administration has advised all devotees to complete the mandatory registration process and obtain a valid Yatra Registration Permit for their allotted date before beginning their journey to the Union Territory. Pilgrims travelling without confirmed registration will not be permitted to undertake the Yatra, it said.
Sinha also reviewed the security and logistical arrangements for the pilgrimage and directed all departments and security agencies to work in close coordination while maintaining continuous liaison with stakeholders, including Langar organisations, service providers and other non-governmental organisations.
He stressed that coordinated efforts among all agencies are essential to ensure a safe, seamless and spiritually fulfilling Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra for all pilgrims.
