Houseboat owners urge LG to declare Kashmir houseboats as heritage assets

Ziraat Times News Desk

Srinagar, July 3: A delegation of the All Kashmir House-Boat Owners Association on Thursday called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and raised several issues concerning the welfare of stakeholders associated with Jammu & Kashmir’s houseboat sector.

The delegation, led by Association Chairman Manzoor Pakhtoon, discussed issues affecting houseboat owners, particularly those operating on the Jhelum River.

Among the key demands projected before the Lieutenant Governor were the declaration of Kashmir’s houseboats as a heritage asset, measures for the welfare of houseboat owners, and the establishment of a dedicated houseboat information and booking counter at the Srinagar Railway Station to facilitate tourists.

The delegation said these measures would help preserve Kashmir’s iconic houseboat heritage while strengthening the tourism sector and improving the livelihood of those dependent on the traditional industry.
