Srinagar, June 21: The annual Mata Kheer Bhawani Yatra commenced on Saturday with devotees gathering at the revered shrine at Tulmulla in Ganderbal district and other temples across Jammu and Kashmir to participate in the traditional festival.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended greetings to the people, particularly members of the Kashmiri Pandit community, on the occasion of Mela Kheer Bhawani and conveyed his best wishes to devotees taking part in the annual pilgrimage.
In a message, the Chief Minister described Mela Kheer Bhawani as an occasion of immense spiritual significance that reflects the rich cultural and civilizational heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the festival symbolises the values of faith, devotion, harmony and coexistence, which have long been integral to the region’s composite culture.
Omar Abdullah expressed hope that the sacred occasion would further strengthen the bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood and mutual respect among different sections of society. He said Jammu and Kashmir’s pluralistic ethos has always drawn strength from its shared traditions and cultural diversity.
The Chief Minister prayed for peace, prosperity and well-being of the people and hoped that the celebrations would bring happiness, progress and harmony across Jammu and Kashmir.
Mela Kheer Bhawani, celebrated annually at the Mata Kheer Bhawani temple in Tulmulla, is one of the most important religious festivals of the Kashmiri Pandit community and attracts devotees from different parts of the country.
