New Delhi: India’s rabi crop sowing has reached 393.07 lakh hectares as of November 28, marking a significant increase over last year’s 357.73 lakh hectares, according to fresh data released by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare.
The latest sowing figures show notable expansion across major crops, with wheat recording the highest growth, rising 16.91% over the corresponding period last year.
Wheat Sowing Surges
Wheat, the season’s main crop, has been sown over 187.37 lakh hectares, up from 160.26 lakh hectares last year — an increase of 27.11 lakh hectares.
Rice has registered marginal progress, reaching 9.10 lakh hectares, slightly above last year’s 8.45 lakh hectares.
Pulses Cover 87.01 Lakh Hectares
Pulses have been planted over 87.01 lakh hectares, higher than last year’s 85.06 lakh hectares.

Gram (Chana) leads with 62.49 lakh hectares, up by 2.36 lakh hectares.

Lentil sowing stands at 11.42 lakh hectares, showing an increase of 0.98 lakh hectares.

Some pulses, including field pea, kulthi, lathyrus and other minor pulses, recorded slight declines.
Millets & Coarse Cereals Show Increased Coverage
The area under Shri Anna & coarse cereals has risen to 29.06 lakh hectares, compared to 26.58 lakh hectares last year.

Small millets and ragi also showed positive growth.
Oilseeds Cross 80.53 Lakh Hectares
Sowing under oilseeds has touched 80.53 lakh hectares, up from 77.38 lakh hectares last year.

Rapeseed & mustard recorded the strongest rise, reaching 77.06 lakh hectares.

Safflower and sunflower also saw modest increases.

Groundnut and linseed registered declines.
