New Delhi, November 25: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal on Tuesday addressed the National Conference of Trade Leaders, emphasising the government’s commitment to strengthening ease of doing business, simplifying compliance for traders, and improving welfare frameworks for workers, especially those in the unorganised and gig sectors.
At the outset, Shri Goyal invoked the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur, saying his sacrifices and unifying vision—commemorated nearly 350 years later—continue to guide India’s path toward progress. The Minister said that following his ideals would bring “pride and honour” to the nation.
Ease of Doing Business Reforms
Shri Goyal underlined that business processes have been significantly streamlined through the Jan Vishvas Bill, which reduces compliance burdens and decriminalises several minor business offences.
Responding to stakeholder suggestions on creating a unified licensing system, the Minister said the idea of “One Nation, One License” could be piloted in Delhi and Maharashtra, with both states potentially working toward a single online portal that integrates state and municipal trade licences.
The Minister highlighted that the government’s four new Labour Codes are designed to bring major improvements for unorganised workers and gig workers, who previously struggled with multiple forms, inspections and complex regulations.
Under the new framework, processes have been simplified and workers will gain improved access to:
-
Social security
-
Health and welfare facilities
-
Better working conditions
Shri Goyal said both employers and employees had welcomed these reforms as a long-awaited structural change.
Calling on trade leaders to support domestic industries, the Minister urged them to actively promote Swadeshi products.
He suggested:
-
Suppliers should clearly mention manufacturing location on packaging
-
Shops may display signage indicating they sell Swadeshi or Made-in-India goods
