Water recedes in flood-hit areas: Budgam Admin issues press communique

Srinagar: A day after the Jhelum embankment breach at Zoonipora in Budgam, authorities reported encouraging signs of improvement, with water levels receding in the inundated areas.

According to the District Administration Budgam, early signs of a reverse flow have been observed at the breach site, with water gradually flowing back into the Jhelum. Officials said the outpouring towards downstream areas has also reduced considerably.

Villages including Shalina, Rakh Shalina, and Baghi Shakirshah, which were submerged following the breach, have seen significant reduction in water levels, bringing some relief to the affected communities.

Relief operations are ongoing, with the administration prioritising the restoration of essential services such as safe drinking water and electricity. Restoration of infrastructure and assessment of damages will follow in the coming days.

Reaffirming its commitment, the District Administration Budgam said it remains focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of all affected families.
