Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet against 14 accused, including officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), a Revenue official, and two private beneficiaries, in connection with an illegal building permission case.
According to an ACB statement, the chargesheet was produced in FIR No. 04/2019 under Sections 5(1)(d) r/w 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt. 2006, and Section 120-B RPC, before the Court of Special Anti-Corruption Judge Srinagar.
The case was registered following allegations that SMC officials, in connivance with Revenue authorities, facilitated illegal construction on State land at Barthana, Qamarwari (Khasra No. 90). Investigations revealed that building permission was fraudulently issued in the name of G. Qadir, who had passed away in 2008. The permission was allegedly misused by his son M. Arif to raise a commercial structure in violation of approved drawings.
It was further alleged that Mr Arif manipulated revenue records to encroach adjoining State land, with the active support of government officials.
The ACB said that the investigation, based on oral and documentary evidence, substantiated the charges of abuse of official position, criminal conspiracy, and undue benefit to private individuals.
After obtaining sanction for prosecution of the public servants, a chargesheet against 12 officials and two private beneficiaries was filed before the Court of Additional Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, for judicial determination. The next hearing of the case has been listed for October 7, 2025.
