Pending power bills haunt old city traders; request LG Sinha’s intervention: Greater Srinagar

Srinagar, May 26: The Greater Srinagar leadership led by Aga Syed Mohammad Hussaini, Faheem Reshi and Akeel Rizvi on Friday expressed their concerns over the huge economic burden faced by businessmen and traders in Shah-re-Qadeem, the old city.

In their statement to Ziraat Times, they highlighted the long-standing economic setbacks that have prevented these traders from clearing their pending electricity bills and has adversely affected their livelihoods.

The leaders emphasized the crucial role played by these traders in supporting their families, underscoring the dire circumstances they face due to the accumulated electricity bills.

“We appeal to the government to adopt a compassionate approach toward this skilled section of society whose earnings are the sole source of sustenance for their families and we are hopeful that positive steps will be taken for their welfare as many meetings have been organised in the past with former Chief Secretary in presence of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar,” Aga said.

Furthermore, the leaders stressed that these traders should be given an opportunity to lead dignified lives, free from the constant worry of outstanding debts.

The Greater Srinagar Leadership also called upon Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and address this pressing issue.

“We request the honorable Governor of J&K to declare a one-time amnesty for the pending electricity bills, providing much-needed relief to the struggling traders in the old city. By granting this amnesty, the government would enable these individuals to regain their financial stability and contribute to the overall economic growth of the region,” Faheem Reshi said.

Besides, Syed Akeel Rizvi also stressed that government’s timely intervention and consideration of this request would not only alleviate the economic burden on these traders but also contribute to the overall well-being of the community at large.
