Jammu, October 11: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has announced the state and district-level leadership of the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS) in Jammu and Kashmir as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots organisation and engagement with local self-governance institutions.
According to a statement issued by the Congress’s RGPRS, the organisational appointments follow a recent circular by AICC General Secretary (Organisation) and Lok Sabha MP K. C. Venugopal, which emphasised the organisation’s role in the party’s planning and decision-making concerning Panchayati Raj and municipal elections.
The RGPRS is expected to strengthen the Congress’s engagement with Panchayati Raj Institutions, municipal bodies and grassroots workers across Jammu and Kashmir.
The initiative also aims to improve coordination between the party organisation and local self-governance institutions, with a focus on decentralised democracy and local leadership ahead of forthcoming local body elections.
The Congress said the organisational framework would help expand its network from villages to urban areas and strengthen its engagement with grassroots democratic institutions across the Union Territory.
