SRINAGAR, AUGUST 13: The Jammu & Kashmir Government has approved three major heritage conservation projects worth ₹18.60 crore to restore historically and culturally significant sites and promote heritage-led tourism across the Union Territory.
The approved projects include restoration and revival of old heritage structures at Uttervehini Heritage in Samba at a cost of ₹6.86 crore; repair, renovation and beautification of the historic Basohli Fort in Kathua at ₹6.50 crore; and revival and restoration of the Yatri Niwas along with beautification of the historic Nallah Soundbrari Spring in Anantnag at ₹5.24 crore.
The initiatives form part of the Government’s broader programme, under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to conserve and revitalise Jammu & Kashmir’s architectural and cultural heritage while integrating historic sites into the region’s tourism development framework.
According to the Government, the projects are intended not only to preserve the region’s heritage but also to create new opportunities for heritage tourism, generate local economic activity and strengthen the tourism ecosystem in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
The latest approvals add to a series of heritage conservation initiatives undertaken by the Government in recent months covering historic, religious and cultural sites across J&K.
These include comprehensive development of the historic Gurudwara Charan Kamal Sahib at Bakhta in Kathua; restoration and preservation of the historic Lah Wali Bowli in Rajouri; and repair and renovation of the historic Rattan Garh Fort in Bhaderwah, Doda.
Other approved projects include restoration and renovation of Ziyarat Sharief Khiram; repair and renovation of the historic Shiv Mandir at Thajiwara in Bijbehara; and restoration and revival of the historic heritage site of Purmandal in Samba.
In Kashmir, the Government has approved conservation and upgradation of the historic Imambara Zadibal in Srinagar, development of the revered holy spring of Khoo Sahib at Yarwan in Pulwama, restoration of the historic Jamia Masjid Sharief in Shopian, and restoration of the Sarvadhar Chaumanda Mata Mandir in Ramban.
The Government’s heritage conservation programme seeks to preserve the architectural and cultural legacy of Jammu & Kashmir while bringing heritage sites within the broader framework of tourism, cultural development and local economic growth.
