SHOPIAN, AUGUST 15: Director Horticulture Kashmir Vikas Anand on Saturday visited several hailstorm-affected areas of Shopian district to assess the damage caused to orchards by the recent heavy hailstorm.
The visit was undertaken on the directions of Agriculture Minister, Jammu & Kashmir, Javed Ahmad Dar. Anand visited Kapran, Pudsoo, Kanjiullar, Feeripora, Mandujan, Pandushan, HP Batagund and other affected villages along with Zainapora MLA Showkat Ahmad Ganaie and Chief Horticulture Officer, Shopian.
During the field visit, Anand interacted with affected orchardists and took stock of the damage suffered by their orchards. He assured the farmers that the Horticulture Department would take all possible measures to safeguard their interests.
The Director directed technical officers and subject matter specialists to immediately reach out to the affected farming community and provide appropriate guidance on post-hailstorm crop management.
He also directed field functionaries to expedite the assessment of crop losses so that a comprehensive report could be submitted to the higher authorities at the earliest.
The Chief Horticulture Officer, Shopian, urged affected farmers to approach his office for technical support and guidance aimed at minimising damage to their orchards.
Field officials have also been directed to remain actively engaged with orchardists and assist them in managing their fields to protect crop yields and minimise financial losses.
