Departments told to accelerate execution of 2026-27 Budget initiatives across J&K

Srinagar, Aug 4: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday reviewed the implementation of key Budget announcements for 2026-27 and directed departments to accelerate execution, improve coordination and ensure that government commitments translate into tangible benefits for the people.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat, the Chief Minister stressed the need for timely implementation of Budget proposals and asked departments to adhere strictly to prescribed timelines.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakina Itoo; Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Transport, Satish Sharma; Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani; Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo; Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta; Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, Shailendra Kumar, administrative secretaries of the concerned departments, and other senior officials.

At the outset, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, Shailendra Kumar, presented an overview of the implementation status of Budget announcements relating to the departments under review, outlining the progress achieved so far.

Administrative Secretaries of the School Education, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport, Social Welfare, and Health and Medical Education departments briefed the Chief Minister on the steps taken to implement Budget proposals and the milestones achieved in their respective sectors.

Reviewing the progress, Abdullah directed departments to expedite implementation of approved initiatives and strengthen inter-departmental coordination to ensure seamless execution of projects and programmes.

He said the success of the Budget would ultimately be measured by its impact on the ground and called upon departments to focus on delivering measurable improvements in public services.

The Chief Minister also emphasised that efficiency, transparency and accountability should remain central to the execution of all Budget initiatives.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to time-bound implementation, Abdullah said every Budget announcement should be translated into effective action to ensure equitable development and improve public welfare across Jammu & Kashmir.
