TTIG clarifies LG’s remarks on prominent businessman Mushtaq Chaya, says statement was misinterpreted

Srinagar, July 29: The Tourist Trade Interest Guild (TTIG) has issued a clarification regarding recent discussions surrounding remarks made by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha about tourism infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir, asserting that comments relating to prominent hotelier Mushtaq Ahmad Chaya were initially misunderstood and later corrected.

In a statement, TTIG Chairman Zahoor Ahmad Karnai said he was personally present during the interaction in which the Lieutenant Governor made the remarks. According to Karnai, a media person initially misinterpreted the statement concerning hotels constructed over the past six years but subsequently corrected the report after understanding the context.

Karnai said the Lieutenant Governor’s remarks were, in fact, appreciative of Chaya’s contribution to the tourism sector. He stated that the Lieutenant Governor described Chaya as a “Peace Ambassador” and acknowledged his role in restoring confidence in Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism industry.

According to TTIG, the Lieutenant Governor also recognised Chaya’s contribution in facilitating investment by the Radisson Hotel Group in Jammu and Kashmir, generating employment opportunities for local youth, and strengthening the Union Territory’s hospitality ecosystem.

Highlighting Chaya’s role in the tourism industry, Karnai said he has served as a source of inspiration for many entrepreneurs and stakeholders associated with the travel and hospitality sector. He added that Chaya’s leadership, vision and commitment to ethical business practices have set benchmarks for aspiring entrepreneurs.

The TTIG chairman said individuals who contribute to promoting tourism, creating employment opportunities and showcasing Jammu and Kashmir as a tourism destination deserve recognition and appreciation. He added that Chaya’s efforts have made a significant contribution to strengthening the region’s tourism industry.

The clarification comes amid recent public discussions over the Lieutenant Governor’s remarks relating to hotel development and private investment in Jammu and Kashmir.
