Budgam, July 20: Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Sunday announced an allocation of ₹8.50 crore for the construction of a bridge over Nallah Shaliganga at Reswani-Tilwandagi in Drygam and ₹81 lakh for beautification and development of the historic Drygam Shrine.
The announcements were made during Rather’s visit to the revered shrine associated with Hazrat Alamdar Sheikh Noor Din Noorani (RA), where he reviewed ongoing development and beautification works.
Addressing local residents and devotees, Rather said the sanctioned ₹81 lakh would be utilized to preserve the shrine’s historical and religious significance while improving facilities for visitors and pilgrims.
In a major boost to local infrastructure, the Speaker said ₹8.50 crore had been earmarked for the construction of a bridge over Nallah Shaliganga at Reswani-Tilwandagi, Drygam. He directed the concerned officials to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) at the earliest to facilitate timely execution of the project.
Expressing concern over what he described as the long neglect of an area with immense historical and religious importance, Rather said it was difficult to understand why the region had remained overlooked despite its significance. He assured the public that every effort would be made to accelerate development in the area and address genuine public demands.
During the visit, the Speaker also interacted with local residents, who raised various developmental issues and civic concerns. He assured them that their genuine demands would be addressed in a phased manner.
Residents welcomed the announcements, expressing hope that the projects would help preserve the area’s rich heritage while improving connectivity, infrastructure and public amenities.
Later, Rather visited the Ziyarat of renowned Sufi poet Samad Mir at Nambalhar, where ongoing development works are being carried out. Officials informed him that ₹1.20 crore had already been sanctioned for the project.
Emphasising the need to preserve the site’s spiritual and cultural heritage, the Speaker directed the concerned officers to expedite the work and ensure its completion within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high quality standards.
