J&K film festival draws 875 entries from 50 countries so far

Srinagar, July 29: The inaugural International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK) 2026 has received an overwhelming response from filmmakers worldwide, with 875 film submissions from nearly 50 countries received so far, officials said on Wednesday.

Organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the four-day festival is scheduled to be held in Srinagar from September 7 to 10.

The film submission window remains open until July 30, offering filmmakers a final opportunity to register their entries for the first edition of the festival.

According to officials, the strong participation from both Indian and international filmmakers reflects growing confidence in Jammu & Kashmir as an emerging destination for film production, creative collaboration and cinematic excellence.

The festival will feature screenings of selected films, masterclasses, panel discussions, interactive sessions and cultural engagements aimed at bringing together filmmakers, industry experts, students and cinema enthusiasts from around the world.

Authorities said the diversity of submissions is expected to introduce audiences to a broad range of storytelling traditions, artistic perspectives and innovative filmmaking practices.

The IFFJK has been conceived as a flagship initiative to promote Jammu & Kashmir’s cultural heritage, scenic landscapes and creative potential on the global stage. The festival also seeks to foster artistic excellence, cultural exchange and cinematic innovation through the recognition and exhibition of outstanding films from across the world.

Officials said the initiative is intended to deepen understanding of different film cultures and strengthen international friendship and cooperation through cinema.

The festival was formally launched on July 17 during a curtain raiser ceremony by Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who invited filmmakers, artists, producers and cinema lovers from across the globe to participate in the landmark event.
