No fresh traffic from Qazigund, Udhampur; full restoration expected tomorrow, say officials

Udhampur, Jul 27: Thousands of vehicles stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway are being allowed to move on priority through available road stretches after landslides and shooting stones damaged the highway at multiple locations in Udhampur and Ramban districts on Monday, officials said.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that stranded traffic between Udhampur and Ramban is being cleared through a single carriageway while restoration work on the damaged stretch is underway.
He said passenger vehicles are being given priority to facilitate the movement of stranded commuters, while heavy machinery has been pressed into service to restore the affected road.
The official said no fresh traffic from Udhampur towards Srinagar, Doda, Ramban and Patnitop, or from Qazigund towards Jammu, will be allowed until the restoration work is completed and the highway is declared safe for vehicular movement.
He said the highway is expected to be fully restored by Tuesday, subject to favourable weather conditions.
“The weather is currently cloudy in Udhampur. Restoration work is progressing, and stranded vehicles are being cleared on priority,” the official said.
He advised commuters to avoid travelling on the highway until further orders, warning that fresh landslides and shooting stones could occur at vulnerable locations—(KNO)
