KCCI Welcomes Zojila Tunnel Breakthrough, Hails Major Boost to Connectivity and Trade

Srinagar, June 10: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has welcomed the successful breakthrough of the Zojila Tunnel, describing it as a historic milestone that brings the long-awaited goal of all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh closer to completion.

In a statement, the Chamber said the completion of excavation and the connection of both ends of the tunnel marks a significant achievement in the region’s infrastructure development and is expected to have far-reaching economic benefits for Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh.

KCCI said the tunnel would ensure year-round connectivity through the strategically important Zojila Pass, reducing travel time and enabling uninterrupted movement of people, goods and essential supplies. It noted that the project is likely to strengthen trade and logistics, improve market access for horticulture and handicraft products, boost tourism, attract investments and create employment opportunities.

The Chamber has also written to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, congratulating him on the successful breakthrough of the tunnel. In its communication, KCCI described the achievement as a landmark engineering accomplishment and acknowledged the Ministry’s efforts in advancing key infrastructure projects in the Himalayan region.

According to the Chamber, the ongoing development of highways, tunnels and related transport infrastructure is laying the foundation for long-term economic growth and greater regional integration. It expressed confidence that the completion of the Zojila Tunnel and associated connectivity projects would usher in a new phase of prosperity, enhanced trade and sustainable development across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

KCCI also appreciated the continued focus of the Government of India and the Jammu and Kashmir administration on strengthening regional connectivity and reiterated its support for initiatives aimed at promoting economic growth through modern infrastructure.
