Srinagar, May 11: The Ministry of Mines will launch the second tranche of limestone block auctions in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir on May 12 in Srinagar, in a move aimed at boosting industrial growth and tapping the region’s mineral resources.

According to an official statement, the Ministry, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir government, will offer 12 limestone blocks for auction under Tranche II. The blocks are spread across the districts of Anantnag, Rajouri and Poonch.

The blocks include newly identified sites as well as those being re-auctioned in a second attempt, with the government stating that the process reflects its focus on optimal resource utilization and sustained participation from industry stakeholders.

The launch event in Srinagar will be attended by Piyush Goyal, Secretary in the Ministry of Mines, and Ashwani Kumar, along with senior officials from the Centre and the UT administration.

Officials said the auctioned blocks fall broadly under the UNFC G3 and G4 stages of exploration, indicating the presence of substantial industrial-grade limestone reserves. The mineral is considered crucial for sectors such as cement, construction and infrastructure development.

The auction process is being conducted under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and the Mineral (Auction) Rules, 2015, with bidding to take place through a digital e-auction platform.

The Ministry said the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote scientific and sustainable mining practices while supporting the goals of industrial expansion, employment generation and inclusive economic development in Jammu & Kashmir.
