Kishtwar, May 8: Ultra High-Density Plantation (UHDP) apple cultivation is gaining momentum in Kishtwar under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), with district authorities stepping up efforts to promote modern horticulture practices among farmers.

Additional District Development Commissioner Vinod Kumar Behnal on Thursday inspected UHDP apple orchards in the Sangrambhata and Chehrar areas to assess the adoption of advanced cultivation techniques by local growers.

During the visit, the ADDC interacted with orchard owners and farmers and appreciated their efforts in embracing scientific horticulture practices aimed at increasing productivity and improving fruit quality.

Chief Horticulture Officer Sajid Mustafa briefed the visiting officer about the advantages of Ultra High-Density Plantation, including higher yields, better land utilisation, early fruit bearing and improved orchard management practices.

Officials said the UHDP model is being promoted as part of efforts to modernise the horticulture sector and enhance farmers’ income through efficient and high-yield cultivation systems.

The ADDC directed the concerned officers to provide all necessary technical guidance and field-level support to farmers to ensure effective implementation of UHDP projects under the HADP scheme across the district.

The inspection was also attended by Horticulture Development Officer Neeraj Kumar and other officials of the Horticulture Department.
