How to manage stress in hospitality sector: Jammu University holds 2-day training program

Jammu, May 25: The P.G. Department of Commerce at the University of Jammu on Sunday inaugurated a two-day Management Development Programme (MDP) on “Stress Management for Hospitality Sector” in collaboration with Anutham Hotel & Resorts.

The programme was organised under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai with the aim of promoting industry-relevant skills and strengthening the linkage between academic learning and professional practice in the hospitality sector.

Head of the Department of Commerce, Prof. Jeevan Jyoti, said the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between classroom education and industry requirements by equipping participants with practical tools for professional growth and entrepreneurial development.

The programme witnessed participation from faculty members and hospitality professionals. The keynote speakers included Ms. Lilly Bhan, Soft Skills Trainer and Management Head associated with Brainpreneurs-CDC; Ms. Pallavi Mahajan, HR and Marketing Programme Manager and Social Media Marketing Head at Brainpreneurs-CDC; and Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu.

The inaugural session began with the formal welcome of dignitaries and participants. Speakers highlighted the increasing importance of workplace stress management, emotional well-being, work-life balance and coping mechanisms, particularly in the hospitality and service sectors.

During the technical sessions, resource persons discussed issues related to self-awareness and stress assessment, anxiety management, emotional resilience, self-compassion, mindfulness, emotional intelligence and the promotion of a positive workplace culture.

The sessions also featured interactive discussions, practical demonstrations and experience-sharing exercises aimed at making the programme more engaging and beneficial for participants.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Harleen Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, who stressed the need for adopting healthy coping strategies and maintaining psychological resilience in professional life.

The proceedings of the first day ended with an interactive question-and-answer session coordinated by Dr. Rupa Mahajan, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Jammu.
