Srinagar, May 11: Nadeem Qadri has called for the launch of a comprehensive “Revival Mission for Kashmir Saffron” to protect and restore saffron cultivation in Pampore, popularly known as the saffron town of Kashmir.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the convenor of Civil Society Pampore said the region’s saffron industry was facing multiple challenges, including climate change, declining productivity, inadequate irrigation facilities and shrinking agricultural land.

He said saffron cultivation, which forms an important part of Kashmir’s cultural and economic identity, requires urgent intervention to prevent further decline.

According to the statement, Civil Society Pampore plans to launch a public movement aimed at the revival, branding and sustainable promotion of Kashmir saffron.

Nadeem Qadri appealed to Manoj Sinha to take the lead in initiating a mission for safeguarding Kashmir’s saffron heritage and supporting the farming community associated with the crop.

He said coordinated efforts were needed to preserve saffron cultivation as both an agricultural resource and a symbol of Kashmir’s traditional heritage.
