KCCI seeks evacuation of J&K students stranded in Iran

Ziraat Times News Desk

Srinagar: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) on Tuesday urged the Government of India to take immediate steps to evacuate students from Jammu and Kashmir who are currently stranded in conflict-affected Iran.

In a statement issued here, the Chamber expressed serious concern over the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Iran amid escalating hostilities in the Middle East. It said hundreds of students from Jammu and Kashmir, enrolled in medical, paramedical, engineering and other professional courses, are presently residing in various Iranian cities and facing uncertainty due to the prevailing tensions.

The Chamber noted that anxious parents and family members in Kashmir have been contacting KCC&I, expressing deep distress over the safety and well-being of their children. Reports of intensified military activity, disruptions in communication, and growing instability have further heightened fears back home, it said.

KCC&I stated that parents of the stranded students have made urgent appeals to the Centre for immediate intervention. The Chamber has sought the personal intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to facilitate swift evacuation measures for the affected students.

Emphasizing that the safety and security of Indian citizens abroad must remain paramount during periods of international conflict, the Chamber urged the Ministry of External Affairs to engage diplomatically with the concerned authorities and initiate a structured and time-bound evacuation plan without delay.

Reiterating its confidence in the Government’s commitment to safeguarding Indian nationals overseas, KCC&I expressed hope that prompt and decisive action would be taken to ensure the safe return of all students from the affected region at the earliest.

The statement was issued by KCC&I Secretary General Faiz Ahmed Bakshi.
