Sufi poet and scholar Abdul Rasheed Wadooo passes away in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 12 — The literary and spiritual landscape of Kashmir suffered a profound loss on Monday  with the passing of Jenab Abdul Rasheed Wadooo, a distinguished Sufi poet, scholar and devotee, who breathed his last in the early hours of January 12, 2026.

Hailing from Chattabal area in Srinagar city, Abdul Rasheed Wadooo was the son of the late Ghulam Muhammad Wadooo. He was widely revered for his deep spiritual wisdom,  devotion to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), his mentors and revered Sufi saints.

A prolific writer, he authored thousands of soul-stirring poems that reflected the essence of Sufi mysticism and spiritual enlightenment. To date, seven books of his works have been published, which have showcased his exceptional literary brilliance and profound understanding of divine love and human spirituality.

The bereaved family announced that the fourth-day congregational prayers (Chahrum / Fatehaha Khawani) will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 2:30 PM at the ancestral graveyard in Chattabal Guzarbal, at the revered shrine of Hazrat Syed Mir Muhammad Mantaqi (R.A.).

The family has humbly requested relatives, friends and well-wishers to participate in the prayers for the eternal peace, mercy and forgiveness of the departed soul.

His profound love for Sufi traditions and literary contributions remain a bright legacy in Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage, said one of his admirers. 

The bereaved family includes his sons: Muzaffar Iqbal Wadooo, Mansar Iqbal Wadooo, Adil Iqbal Wadooo.
