New Delhi, Jan 25: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Saturday said India’s strength lies in its Constitution, unity in diversity and the collective efforts of its citizens, as she addressed the nation on the eve of the 77th Republic Day.
Extending greetings to Indians at home and abroad, the President said Republic Day offers an opportunity to reflect on the country’s journey since Independence and the enforcement of the Constitution on January 26, 1950. She described the Constitution as the foundational document of the world’s largest republic, embodying the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
Recalling the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in unifying the nation, President Murmu referred to the ongoing celebrations marking his 150th birth anniversary. She also highlighted nationwide commemorations marking 150 years of the composition of Vande Mataram and paid tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary, observed as Parakram Diwas.
The President lauded the contributions of soldiers, farmers, workers, healthcare professionals, teachers, scientists, entrepreneurs, artists and public servants, stating that their dedication continues to strengthen the Republic. She also appreciated the role of overseas Indians in enhancing India’s global image.
Marking National Voters’ Day on January 25, President Murmu underscored the importance of democratic participation and noted the rising involvement of women voters. She highlighted government initiatives aimed at women’s empowerment, including self-help groups, financial inclusion and political representation, describing Nari Shakti as central to the vision of a developed India.
The President also spoke about welfare measures for tribal communities, farmers and the poor, citing initiatives in health, education, housing and food security. She said India’s youth and start-up ecosystem are driving innovation and economic growth, while the country continues to be the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
Referring to defence preparedness, she highlighted the success of Operation Sindoor and India’s growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing. She also emphasized environmental protection, India’s global leadership on climate action, and the message of peace and harmony rooted in the country’s civilizational values.
Concluding her address, President Murmu called upon citizens to work together with the spirit of “Nation First” to build a stronger and more inclusive Republic, and extended her best wishes to the nation on Republic Day.
