India urges its nationals in Iran, including students, to leave the country immediately

New Delhi/Tehran, Jan 14: The Government of India has issued a fresh advisory urging all Indian nationals currently in Iran — including students, pilgrims, business travellers and tourists — to leave the country immediately by available means of transport, citing the evolving and unstable security situation in the Islamic Republic.

In a notice issued by the Indian Embassy in Tehran, the government reiterated that citizens of India and persons of Indian origin (PIOs) should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, maintain contact with the Embassy and monitor local media for developments.

The advisory also asked Indian nationals to keep travel and immigration documents such as passports and IDs readily available and to contact the Indian mission for any required assistance. Emergency helpline numbers and an Embassy email have been provided for support.

Authorities have encouraged Indians in the country who have not yet registered with the Embassy to do so through an online portal, and also asked family members in India to assist with registration if internet disruptions occur in Iran.

The warning comes amid intensifying protests and unrest across several Iranian cities, with reports of escalating demonstrations, internet blackouts and disrupted daily life, raising safety concerns for foreign nationals.

This advisory builds on earlier travel warnings that urged Indian citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran and stay alert to local conditions as large-scale protests and civil disturbances continue.

The government’s move underscores heightened concerns for Indian citizens abroad in the face of rising instability in Iran and reinforces calls for immediate departure where possible.
