ICC Jammu Chairman Meets J&K LG, Raises Industry, Infrastructure Concerns

Jammu: Rahul Sahai, Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Jammu Chapter, on Thursday called on the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, at Raj Bhawan here and discussed a range of issues related to trade, commerce, and industrial development in the Union Territory.

During the meeting, Sahai extended New Year greetings to the Lieutenant Governor and wished him success in his efforts towards the welfare and development of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The ICC Jammu Chairman highlighted several concerns affecting local and existing industries, stressing the need to safeguard their interests. He urged the administration to include pending applications under the New Central Sector Scheme (NCSS) industrial package and also sought the announcement of a new industrial package for existing and local industries on lines similar to the benefits provided under the NCSS.

Sahai also raised the long-pending issue related to Gair Mumkin Khad land and called for its early resolution. He further requested administrative simplification to ease labour laws and improve the overall business environment in the region.

Drawing attention to public concerns, Sahai pointed out delays in the execution of ongoing infrastructure projects, which he said have resulted in traffic congestion and disruption across Jammu city. He termed the issue a major subject of public discussion and urged timely completion of projects.

In addition, Sahai sought extensions of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) leases for facilities such as Fruit Mandi, Transport Nagar, and Bahu Plaza. He also emphasised the need for a people-friendly Master Plan prepared with wider stakeholder participation.

Highlighting the importance of social harmony and public trust, Sahai suggested strengthening police–public interaction initiatives to improve community engagement.

The Lieutenant Governor listened to the issues raised and assured that the administration is committed to addressing genuine concerns of trade, industry, and the public in a structured and time-bound manner, while keeping overall development and public interest as key priorities.
