Srinagar: Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, IAS, Additional Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, today visited the Honey Processing and Testing Laboratory at the Directorate of Agriculture, Kashmir, at Lal Mandi, Srinagar.
During the visit, Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, briefed the visiting dignitary in detail about the laboratory’s operations, including advanced testing protocols for adulteration detection, quality certification, processing techniques, and its role in empowering local beekeepers and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). The Director highlighted how the lab supports the region’s high-quality multifloral and organic honey production, which holds immense potential for domestic and export markets.
Ms Dwivedi appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Agriculture Kashmir in establishing and operationalizing this modern facility. She emphasized the importance of such infrastructure in realizing the vision of a “Sweet Revolution” across the country, promoting sustainable apiculture practices, enhancing farmers’ income, and strengthening the honey value chain. The Additional Secretary interacted with technical staff and expressed satisfaction with the lab’s contribution to quality assurance and the overall development of the agriculture and allied sectors in Jammu & Kashmir.
