PM Modi meets NITI Aayog economists; urges mission mode on Viksit Bharat by 2047

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held an interaction with a group of eminent economists and experts at NITI Aayog, focusing on the theme “Aatmanirbharta and Structural Transformation: Agenda for Viksit Bharat.” The discussions centred on strengthening India’s long-term growth trajectory and advancing the vision of a developed nation by 2047.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said the vision of Viksit Bharat has evolved into a nationwide aspiration, transcending policy frameworks and becoming a collective goal for citizens. He noted that changing patterns in education, consumption and global mobility reflect this shift, necessitating forward-looking institutions, robust infrastructure and sustained reforms.

Emphasising the need for mission-mode governance, the Prime Minister said India must undertake focused and coordinated reforms across sectors to maintain growth momentum. He stressed that policymaking and budgeting should remain aligned with long-term national objectives, ensuring that India remains competitive, innovative and globally integrated.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of positioning India as a global hub for talent, enterprise and innovation, noting that structural reforms must support productivity, competitiveness and resilience in a rapidly changing global economy.

During the interaction, economists shared insights on strengthening productivity across manufacturing and services sectors. Discussions centred on accelerating structural transformation through higher domestic savings, infrastructure development, and the strategic use of advanced technologies. The role of Artificial Intelligence and the expansion of Digital Public Infrastructure were highlighted as key drivers of future growth.

Participants also observed that the wave of cross-sectoral reforms undertaken in 2025 has laid a strong foundation for sustained economic expansion. They noted that continued consolidation of these reforms would help India maintain its position among the world’s fastest-growing major economies.

The meeting brought together leading economists and experts including Shankar Acharya, Ashok K. Bhattacharya, N.R. Bhanumurthy, Amita Batra, Janmejaya Sinha, Amit Chandra, Rajani Sinha, Dinesh Kanabar, Basanta Pradhan, Madan Sabnavis, Ashima Goyal, Dharmakirti Joshi, Umakant Dash, Pinaki Chakraborty, Indranil Sen Gupta, Samiran Chakraborty, Abhiman Das, Rahul Bajoria, Monika Halan and Siddhartha Sanyal.

The interaction underscored the government’s commitment to evidence-based policymaking, institutional reform and long-term economic resilience as India advances towards the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
