Srinagar, Dec 26: The pasaing away of Advocate Sheikh Adil Nabi, a young lawyer associated with the District Court Srinagar and recently appointed as a Prosecuting Officer with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), passed away on Thursday after succumbing to injuries sustained in a road accident near Banihal, has left Kashmir’s legal fraternity in disbelief and shock.
The accident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, December 25, when Advocate Adil Nabi was travelling from New Delhi towards Kashmir. He sustained serious injuries in the mishap and was immediately rushed to Sub-District Hospital Banihal. He was later referred to District Hospital Anantnag and subsequently shifted to SKIMS Srinagar, where his condition remained critical. Despite sustained medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, the sources added.
A resident of Kandipora, Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Advocate Adil Nabi was known in the legal fraternity for his professional competence, humility and dedication to the profession. His recent appointment as Prosecuting Officer in the CBI was regarded as a major milestone in his legal career and a moment of pride for the local Bar.
The untimely demise has triggered a wave of grief across the legal community in Jammu and Kashmir, with several Bar associations, senior advocates, colleagues and friends paying rich tributes to the departed soul.
Kashmir Advocates Association mourns
The Kashmir Advocates Association, led by its President Advocate Waseem Gul, Vice President Advocate Farooq Ahmad Ganie, General Secretary Advocate Adil Muneer Andrabi (Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India), Joint Secretary Advocate Zarin Ali, Treasurer Advocate Zaman Irshad Parray, Coordinator Advocate Surat Shakeel, and Executive Member Advocate Adil Parray, expressed profound grief over the tragic loss.
In a condolence message, the Association described Advocate Adil Nabi as a “noble young soul” whose kindness, sincerity, humility, and dedication would be remembered for a long time. The Association, along with the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Srinagar, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to be granted the highest place in Jannah.
The Association also held a condolence meeting today in the Common Bar Room, District Court Complex, Srinagar, where his colleagues paid rich tributes to the departed soul.

Senior advocate and former General Secretary of the JKHCBA, Advocate G.N. Shaheen, termed Adil Nabi’s death a “great loss to the bereaved family and the legal fraternity,” describing him as a promising lawyer and a humble human being. He prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and patience for the family.
Advocate Shah Ashiq Hussain recalled meeting Adil Nabi just a week ago in Chandigarh, remembering his warmth, kindness, and willingness to help. He said the sudden passing had sent waves of grief across the legal fraternity.
Advocate Sheikh Irfan Gulzar expressed shock over the “heart-wrenching” loss of a colleague who had recently been appointed as Public Prosecutor in the CBI, calling his death irreplaceable.
Advocate Aamir Masoodi described the demise as a great loss to both the family and the legal fraternity, remembering Adil Nabi as a man of peace, wisdom, and legal acumen.
Advocate Mubashir Mushtaq termed the loss deeply personal, saying the young lawyer’s discussions, understanding of law, and friendship would remain unforgettable.
Advocate Musharraf Peerzada called the news “heart-wrenching,” noting that the legal fraternity had lost a promising legal mind at a very young age.
Advocate Nazakat Nazeer, a close friend and batchmate, expressed deep grief, calling the loss unbearable and remembering the shared journey, memories, and companionship, while praying for the highest ranks in Jannat-ul-Firdous for the departed soul.
Several other advocates, including Advocate Arshid Bashir, who had earlier appealed for prayers during Adil Nabi’s critical condition, also mourned his demise and paid tribute to his professional excellence and humane nature.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated necessary proceedings.
The sudden passing of Advocate Sheikh Adil Nabi has left the legal fraternity in shock, mourning the loss of a bright, humble, and promising lawyer whose life and career were cut tragically short.
