Civil Aviation Ministry Caps Airfares Amid IndiGo Disruptions

Ziraat Times News Desk

New Delhi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has stepped in to regulate airfares after receiving reports of unusually high prices on several routes affected by the ongoing IndiGo operational crisis. Citing passenger protection concerns, the Ministry has invoked its regulatory powers to impose temporary fare caps across all impacted sectors.

According to the directive issued on Friday, all airlines must strictly adhere to the prescribed fare limits until normal flight operations are restored. The Ministry said the move aims to prevent opportunistic pricing and ensure that travellers — especially senior citizens, students and patients — are not subjected to undue financial strain during the disruption.

MoCA said it is monitoring fare levels in real time through continuous coordination with airlines and online travel platforms. Any violation of the capped fare structure, the Ministry warned, will invite immediate corrective action in the public interest.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting passenger rights and ensuring fair access to air travel while the crisis is being resolved.
