Ziraat Times Team Report

Srinagqr: Police have launched a major crackdown on illegal mining in the Rambi Ara belt near SIDCO Lassipora and Gund Achan, seizing a large fleet of heavy machinery allegedly used in the extraction and transportation of minerals.

Officials told Ziraat Times the operation, carried out during late-night hours, led to the confiscation of 2 LNT machines, 5 JCBs, 9 dumpers and 5 tippers. A police officer said the machinery was being used for illegal mineral extraction along the riverbed, causing significant environmental damage.

Taking cognisance of the violations, police registered FIR No. 99/2025 and FIR No. 100/2025 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3 of the PPD Act.

Investigators have initiated a probe to identify the full network involved in the illegal mining operations, including financiers, contractors and transporters. Officials described the action as a “much-needed step” to curb rampant environmental violations in the area.
