JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), in collaboration with T-Hub Hyderabad, one of India’s leading startup incubators, successfully concluded a two-day mentorship programme under the J&K Startup Idea Challenge at its regional campus in Bari Brahmana, Jammu.

The mentorship phase was inaugurated by Sh. Chand Kishore Sharma (JKAS), Joint Director, JKEDI, in the presence of institute officers, officials, and the participating innovators. The event witnessed the participation of 72 shortlisted students and aspiring entrepreneurs from across the Jammu Division, who were selected through a rigorous process following 41 boot camps held across all districts of the Union Territory.

Participants included students from colleges and universities across J&K — even from remote institutions such as Government Degree College Doda, Government Degree College Poonch, and Government Degree College Kishtwar — reflecting the extensive outreach and inclusivity of the initiative.

The mentorship programme forms a crucial component of the J&K Startup Policy 2024–27, which focuses on identifying, nurturing, and empowering young innovators throughout the region. The Startup Idea Challenge has so far engaged over 5,000 students and aspiring entrepreneurs, receiving more than 1,200 innovative ideas, out of which 225 promising ideas have been shortlisted for structured mentorship and capacity building through a multi-stage evaluation process.

During the sessions, expert mentors from T-Hub Hyderabad guided participants on various aspects of entrepreneurship, including innovation strategies, business model development, and market validation. The interactive programme also laid the groundwork for identifying high-potential startup ideas for future incubation and institutional support under JKEDI’s startup ecosystem.

The initiative underscores JKEDI’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across Jammu and Kashmir, equipping the next generation of youth with the skills and guidance necessary to translate their ideas into sustainable business ventures.
