Srinagar: The 5th Edition of the CII J&K Apple Conclave 2025 was held today in Srinagar, bringing together policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and growers to chart a sustainable and innovative future for Jammu and Kashmir’s apple sector. Organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) J&K, this year’s conclave revolved around the theme “Sustainability, Innovations & Inclusivity,” underscoring the need to combine traditional strengths with modern technology and research.
The event was inaugurated by Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Cooperative, and Election Departments, who served as the Chief Guest. Emphasizing collaboration and innovation, he said, “Our farmers are the backbone of the apple economy, and the government is committed to uplifting their livelihoods. Sustainability and innovation are not merely objectives; they are our duty to future generations.”
Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Kashmir and Guest of Honour, highlighted the role of education and research in advancing the horticulture sector. “Investing in knowledge and technology is crucial for improving orchard productivity,” he said. “Our farmers deserve tools and training that will help them thrive in an increasingly competitive market.”
Izhan Javeed, Convener of CII J&K’s Horticulture & Food Processing Panel, described the conclave as a platform for “meaningful dialogue among stakeholders to shape the policy roadmap for the future of the apple economy.” He stressed that sustainability must guide policy, innovation must drive growth, and inclusivity must ensure equitable benefits.
Dawar Ashraf Mir, Co-Convener of the panel, lauded the participation of farmers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, saying, “Our goal is not only to sustain our heritage but also to innovate and adapt to the changing market dynamics. Together, we can build a vibrant future for Kashmir’s apple growers.”
The conclave featured participation from a wide spectrum of stakeholders — including government officials, agri-tech innovators, entrepreneurs, and industry experts — to discuss sustainability in fruit cultivation, technological interventions, and inclusive growth in horticulture.
Notable dignitaries included Sartaj Ahmad, Director of Agriculture; Javaid Ahmad Bhat, Deputy Director, Department of Horticulture; Abdul Hamid Bhat, Joint Director, Department of Horticulture; Prof. (Dr.) Imtiyaz A. Zargar and Prof. (Dr.) Khalid Mushtaq from SKUAST-Kashmir; and several agri-entrepreneurs and industry leaders such as Karan Sikri, Faiz Khurshid, Maajid Aslam Wafai, Bashir Ahmad Naik, Aweem Irshad, and Owais Janwari.
The CII J&K Apple Conclave 2025 reaffirmed the region’s vision to make the apple industry more competitive, sustainable, and inclusive through innovation, collaboration, and policy support — marking yet another milestone in Kashmir’s horticultural transformation.
