Srinagar: Stressing that the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir must come through a stable and peaceful process ensuring long-term normalcy, Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan Wednesday said that the region has endured years of hardship and emotional pain.

Speaking to the media in Srinagar, Khan said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India share a collective hope to see J&K regain its statehood, but such a transition requires a well-structured and sustainable mechanism.

Khan said that while the goal of restoring statehood is widely supported, innocent people often end up bearing the consequences of larger decisions. “The ultimate objective remains to build a peaceful, balanced and stable atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

“Kashmir is the crown of India,” Khan said, highlighting the region’s special place in the heart of the nation. “I have always said that those who seek true knowledge must walk a few steps towards Kashmir, it is the cradle of wisdom, intellect and culture.”

Recalling his earlier visits to the Valley, the Governor said, “There is a special emotion in my heart for Kashmir. I have visited the region several times, and in 1984, I remember spending nearly a month here.”

The Governor added that all arrangements for the upcoming Bihar elections have been carefully planned to ensure a smooth and fair polling process—(KNO)
