New Delhi: In a move aimed at improving user convenience and strengthening the digital toll payment ecosystem, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has simplified the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process for FASTag users. The revised guidelines, issued by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), seek to make the verification process easier while ensuring uninterrupted services for motorists.
Under the new rules, FASTag services will not be discontinued for users who have yet to complete the KYV process. Instead, they will be given ample time and reminders to complete the verification, ensuring that travel on national highways remains seamless.
As part of the changes, users of cars, jeeps, and vans will now only need to upload a single front-facing photograph showing the vehicle’s number plate and FASTag, eliminating the earlier requirement for side-view images.
Additionally, the system will now automatically retrieve Registration Certificate (RC) details from the VAHAN database once a user enters the vehicle number, chassis number, or mobile number. In cases where multiple vehicles are linked to the same mobile number, users will be able to select the specific vehicle for which they wish to complete the KYV process.
To avoid service disruption, FASTags issued before the KYV policy will continue to remain active unless misuse or complaints are reported. Issuer banks have been directed to send SMS reminders to customers who have yet to complete KYV.
If users encounter issues while uploading documents, issuer banks will proactively reach out to assist them before any disconnection occurs.
Customers facing persistent issues can also contact the National Highway Helpline (1033) for assistance or to raise complaints related to the KYV process.
The simplification of the KYV procedure is part of NHAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience, streamline digital tolling operations, and strengthen the FASTag ecosystem across India’s extensive highway network.
