Srinagar: Emotional scenes marked the farewell of G.N. Var, the long-serving President of the Private Schools’ Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK), who announced his retirement on Sunday after more than 15 years of distinguished service. His decision, driven by personal reasons and new professional commitments, brings to a close an era that redefined the private education sector in the Union Territory.

During his tenure, Var became the voice and guiding force of private education in Jammu and Kashmir, steering the Association through some of its most challenging phases. His leadership was widely credited with uniting private institutions and ensuring recognition for the sector at both state and national levels.

At an emotional farewell gathering, attended by members of the PSAJK Executive Council and prominent educationists, speakers hailed Var as a “true legend of education” who dedicated his life to protecting the interests of schools, teachers, and students. They highlighted his persistent efforts in resolving key policy issues, advocating fair regulations, and enhancing the dignity of educators.

Shah Gulzar, Chief Organizer of PSAJK, described Var’s contribution as “pivotal” to the growth and credibility of private schools in the region.

“G.N. Var’s dedication and tireless efforts have been instrumental in promoting the private school sector in Jammu and Kashmir. His vision, commitment to quality education, and continuous support to educators have left an indelible mark on our community,” Gulzar said.

He added that while Var’s departure marks the end of a defining chapter, it also opens the door for emerging leaders to build on the strong institutional foundation he established.

In his farewell address, G.N. Var expressed full confidence in the future of the Association and extended his best wishes to Nazar-ul-Islam Baba, who has been appointed as Adhoc President for three months to oversee free and fair elections of PSAJK.

“Leadership is about creating more leaders. I have complete faith that PSAJK will continue to grow and safeguard the interests of private schools with unity, integrity, and dedication,” Var said, thanking members and colleagues for their unwavering support.

The Association collectively extended its deepest gratitude to G.N. Var for his visionary leadership and long-standing service, wishing him good health and success in his future endeavors.
