Baba Ghulam Shah University Community Condemns False Propaganda; Hails University’s Transformation

Ziraat Times News Desk

RAJOURI: The academic fraternity of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, has condemned what it termed as “deliberate attempts” to malign the institution’s image, saying such efforts come at a time when the University is witnessing unprecedented academic and infrastructural growth.

University officials and faculty said the false narrative being circulated on social media aims to “undermine the remarkable progress achieved in recent months” under a new phase of reform and expansion.

Since Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma assumed additional charge as Registrar about eight months ago, BGSBU has undergone “transformative renewal,” aligning closely with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, according to a statement from the University.

Over this period, the University has introduced 27 new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, set up six new departments, and launched four-year UG programmes with flexible entry–exit options. Courses in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Tourism, and Management have drawn significant student interest.

Record Admissions and Academic Expansion

Officials reported a record surge in admissions, with more than 1,000 students enrolling in various diploma, UG, and PG courses this year — a development the University describes as a “reflection of public trust in BGSBU’s new academic direction.”

For the first time, field-based experiential learning has been integrated into academic programmes. Through a collaboration with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), students of professional streams visited and studied tunnel projects to gain first-hand industry exposure.

Promoting Language, Culture, and Technology

In a push for linguistic and cultural preservation, BGSBU has established a Centre for Research in Gojri, Pahari, and Kashmiri Languages, launching MA and BA courses in these disciplines.

The University’s digital transformation drive has been accelerated through the Samarth ERP system, enabling complete online management of admissions, examinations, and student services.

Major Funding and Infrastructure Boost

BGSBU has secured ₹20 crore under RUSA for academic and infrastructure strengthening and an additional ₹2 crore under CAPEX for smart classroom development.
Renovation of three hostels and multiple faculty quarters has been completed, while a new academic block has been constructed to accommodate the expanding student body.

Smart classrooms are being equipped with interactive panels and digital learning tools, making teaching more technology-driven and participatory.

Innovation and Sustainability Initiatives

The University has also established a Startup Cell, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, Tinkering Lab, and an Institutional Innovation Council, and recently hosted its first Startup Hackathon.

In collaboration with the J&K Science and Technology Department and JKEDA, BGSBU has initiated a 1 MW solarization project to make the campus carbon neutral.

Student Welfare and Inclusivity

To promote women’s education, the University offers a 50% fee concession for the only girl child and for top meritorious female students, alongside civil services coaching for 30 girls under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.

A comprehensive University Induction Programme focusing on mental health, drug abuse awareness, and student well-being was held for the first time this year.

The University has also rolled out RFID-enabled ID cards for students, faculty, and staff, improving security and operational efficiency.

University Urges Public to Ignore False Narratives

In its statement, the University reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, innovation, and inclusive growth, urging the public and stakeholders to disregard misinformation.

“BGSBU stands today as a vibrant example of academic renewal and responsible governance. False propaganda cannot obscure the progress made in recent months,” the statement said.
