Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has officially banned 25 books on the grounds of ‘promoting secessionism, glorifying terrorism and potentially disturbing public peace and unity’. The move, outlined in an order issued by the J&K Home Department, cites concerns over the content of these books that allegedly contradict the sovereignty and integrity of India.
The banned books span a wide range of subjects—from human rights and politics to gender, history, and military occupation—and include works by both Indian and international authors. The government has invoked Section 95 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), authorizing confiscation of the listed books from public libraries, educational institutions, and booksellers across the Union Territory.
