PHDCCI Kashmir felicitates Vikram Sahay on assuming Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K, role

Srinagar: The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) Kashmir chapter on Wednesday extended warm congratulations to Vikram Sahay, IRS, on his promotion as the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

A felicitation ceremony was held at the Income Tax Department’s Srinagar office, where PHDCCI Kashmir Chairman Vicky Shaw, along with members  Himayu Wani, Ms. Madeena Mir,  Fayaz Bhat, and Deputy Director, Iqbal Fayaz Jan, presented Mr. Sahay with a memento to mark the occasion.

The meeting served as a platform for a constructive dialogue on strengthening collaboration between the Income Tax Department and the business community in Kashmir. Key among the initiatives discussed was the need to launch awareness and outreach programs across districts to help taxpayers better understand new digital compliance systems introduced by the department.

Acknowledging the recent drop in revenue realization in the wake of the Pahalgam terror incident, participants stressed the importance of rebuilding public confidence through proactive engagement. Mr. Sahay pointed out that a significant number of tax-related issues stem from a lack of awareness, and advocated for taking “corrective and coercive measures right to the taxpayers’ doorstep” to ease compliance.

The discussion also emphasized the growing importance of documentation, digital awareness, and sound bookkeeping in today’s competitive economy. Both the department and PHDCCI agreed that businesses must stay informed about compliance mandates to avoid legal challenges and operate sustainably.
