J&K Govt forms Steering Committee for alternate tourism destinations

Srinagar: In a major push to diversify and revamp tourism infrastructure across lesser-known destinations, the Jammu & Kashmir Government has constituted a high-level Steering Committee for the implementation of SPREADSustainable Promotion and Revamping of Emerging Alternate Destinations, official sources told Ziraat Times

The Chief Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir will chair the committee, which includes Administrative Secretaries from 12 key departments. Members of the Steering Committee are:

  1. Chief Secretary, J&K – Chairman

  2. Administrative Secretary, Jal Shakti Department – Member

  3. Administrative Secretary, Tourism Department – Member

  4. Administrative Secretary, Planning, Development & Monitoring Department – Member

  5. Administrative Secretary, Public Works (R&B) Department – Member

  6. Administrative Secretary, Power Development Department – Member

  7. Administrative Secretary, Finance Department – Member

  8. Administrative Secretary, Agriculture Production Department – Member

  9. Administrative Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department – Member

  10. Administrative Secretary, Forest, Ecology & Environment Department – Member

  11. Administrative Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department – Member

  12. Administrative Secretary, Rural Development Department – Member

  13. Chief Executive Officer, J&K Economic Reconstruction Agency – Member

The initiative aims to promote eco-sensitive and culturally rich alternate destinations across the Union Territory, particularly in underdeveloped regions.

Terms of Reference:

As per the order, the committee is tasked to:

  1. Provide strategic direction and ensure inter-departmental coordination for SPREAD.

  2. Facilitate high-level policy approvals, resource allocation, and problem-solving.

  3. Oversee the smooth execution of the initiative.

The Tourism Department will serve as the secretariat for the committee.

The committee has been formed through Government Order No. 936-JK(GAD) of 2025, issued on July 18, 2025, by the General Administration Department, Civil Secretariat, J&K.
