Jammu: The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Jammu, on Wednesday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the long-awaited railway connectivity to Kashmir, calling it a landmark development in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Rahul Sahai, Chairman of ICC Jammu, described the moment as a “historic turning point” for the region’s development. “The completion of this strategically significant and technically challenging railway line is nothing short of a civil engineering marvel,” Sahai said, crediting the Prime Minister for his “unwavering commitment to national integration, inclusive growth, and regional connectivity.”
Sahai emphasized that the newly launched Jammu-Kashmir train service would act as a catalyst for economic transformation. “This train will be a game-changer — opening new avenues for trade, tourism, logistics, and industrial growth. Jammu is now positioned to become a crucial economic hub and a gateway for the movement of goods, people, and ideas,” he said.
He also highlighted the positive implications for MSMEs, local transporters, service providers, and the region’s youth, who are expected to benefit from expanded employment opportunities and business activity.
Rahul Sahai extended special thanks to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for ensuring the train service begins from Jammu instead of Katra, responding to the long-standing demand of the business community. “This move strengthens Jammu’s role as the economic and logistical nerve centre of the UT,” he said, appreciating the LG’s responsiveness to industry voices.
Concluding his remarks, Sahai affirmed that ICC Jammu would actively collaborate with various stakeholders to maximize the economic benefits of the project and ensure its positive impact is felt across the region.
