A real hero: SMC worker finds large amount of cash in Srinagar, appeals to owner to come forward

Srinagar: In a remarkable act of honesty, a sanitation worker with Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) discovered a large sum of cash while on duty near Maharaj Bazar, close to Hari Singh High Street, on Sunday morning.

Nisar Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Gandbal, Srinagar, came across a plastic bag filled with cash around 9:00 AM as he was cleaning the streets. Inside the bag was also a paper chit containing handwritten details related to the cash amount.

Speaking to local media, Nisar said, “I was sweeping the area when I noticed the plastic bag tucked near a pavement. On checking it, I found a lot of cash inside. My immediate thought was to inform people and help trace the rightful owner.”

Despite his humble background and limited means, Nisar made no attempt to keep the money and instead approached authorities and appealed through the public for the owner to come forward and provide necessary identification and information to claim the cash.

Nisar’s honesty is being hailed as heroic by locals and fellow municipal workers alike. Social media platforms across the Valley have seen an outpouring of appreciation for his upright conduct, with many calling for the SMC and local administration to formally recognize his integrity.

As of now, the bag and its contents remain unclaimed. Individuals who believe they may have lost the money near Maharaj Bazar are encouraged to contact the individual with detailed proof of ownership, including the specific amount and contents of the paper note found inside the bag.

In a time when trust and integrity often seem in short supply, Nisar Ahmed Sheikh’s action has emerged as a shining example of civic responsibility and moral courage.
